Student Council 2007 February PDF Print E-mail

The Woods Road Student Council continues to do a great job with fund-raisers and activities. We have so many fund-raises and school spirit days coming up. I hope you enjoy them!

We had so many school spirit days in the second quarter. We had wear holiday colors, a football week, and for the up corning school spirit days we will wear red for Valentine's Day, wear a baseball team shirt to start off the baseball season (actually, it's the start of spring training.) After that we will have 50's/Grease Day, wear green for St. Patrick's Day, and wear your favorite tee-shirt day.

Our upcoming hd-raises will start with "Island Harvest." Island Harvest provides meals for the homeless people for less than a quarter. They need your help to provide meals by just putting change in a bag that we will hand out to everyone. Pennies for patients is the second hd-raiser where you bring in pennies for people in the hospital who have leukemia and lymphoma. Right around Easter we will be doing a food drive. If you bring in a can of food you will receive a rabbit cut out with your name on it and it will be hung up on the wall.

We had our first student council trip. All of Student Council and our fifth and first graders went to sing holiday songs for the people in the Broadlawn Manor Nursing Home. We had a great time.

We received all new school supplies for our school store. We have Valentine's Day pencils and erasers in the shape of a heart, more Rocket erasers, and more memo pads and small notebooks. We are also selling cups and zipper clips that say Woods Road on them.

Student Council is also making cards for the Veterans so if you have any free time, please make a card with only your first name. Thee will be a box in the fiont lobby so we can collect the cards.
At the end of the month the top two card making classes on each side will receive a heart shaped eraser top and a Valentine's day pencil. President:

President: Dana Schachter
Vice President: Shannon Townsend

Dear Parents, Residents and Staff:

By now, you have probably read news accounts or watched TV video of the attack on an adolescent girl by three teenage girls, who are North Babylon residents. What happened here in our district is not only a North Babylon problem. It is a result of societal issues which impact school districts throughout our country. Underlying causes include increasing violence in our society and abuse of the internet, which can turn a source of good information into something harmful for our children.
